What is this medicine used for?
This medicine is indicated for those who have hypertension, commonly called high blood pressure.

How does this medicine work?
It blocks the effects of Angiotensin, a chemical which causes constriction of blood vessels and stimulation of heart muscle.

How is this medicine taken?
Take this medicine regularly and continuously as directed by your doctor. This medicine can be taken with or without food.

What if I miss a dose?
 Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.

How is this medicine stored?
Store at room temperature in a tightly closed container. Keep away from heat and light.

Are there side effects?
The most common listed side effects are cough, nasal congestion, dizziness, diarrhea, and heartburn.
If you experience other side effects that are bothersome to you, notify your doctor or pharmacist.

Are there precautions with this medicine?
Patients taking this drug should be closely monitored if they have any history of kidney or liver disease. Let your doctor know if you have a history of circulation problems in the brain, lupus erythematosus, or if you are allergic to penicillin or aspirin. If you are taking a water pill (diuretic) your doctor may need to adjust your dose.

What about interactions with other drugs?
An increase in the effects of this medicine may occur while taking cimetidine (an acid blocker) or with phenobarbital (a sedative). For more information on drug interactions, talk to your pharmacist.

Can I take this medicine if I’m pregnant or breast-feeding?
If you suspect that you may be pregnant, talk to your doctor, since this drug is not recommended for use during pregnancy. For nursing mothers, it is unknown whether losartan is excreted in the breast milk. Discuss with your doctor possible risks to your baby while taking this medicine.
